The first Fallout game was released in 1997, published by Interplay. The game featured 2-D graphics and a top-down style view. The game was fully turn-based.

The Fallout series relies heavily on karma. The games offer a system to players that give choices to act on behalf of certain factions, or out of personal interests.
Fallout 3 takes place in 2277, 36 years after Fallout 2, 116 years after Fallout 1, and 200 years after the war.

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel is considered "non-canon-" meaning it is a seperate fictional universe to Fallout 1 & 2.
